Subsea Umbilicals, Risers and Flowlines (SURF) components and wellheads are vital elements of the offshore production process. A subsea wellhead system is attached to the casing of a drilled well and acts as a conduit through which very high pressure oil and gas (between 10,000 and 15,000 psi) emerges from the seabed. The wellhead interacts with the production tubing strings and subsea production tree to ensure the well is producing as much oil and gas as possible. This involves re-injecting gas or water to promote production in other wells within the same oil or gas field. Installed at depths of up to 10,000 feet these systems are built to withstand extreme external pressure, and the internal pressures within the unit.
Transporting materials from the seafloor to the production facility on the water’s surface, risers are a vital part of the subsea operation. Working with the wellhead in the same tough conditions, risers transport hydrocarbons from the seafloor as well as sending injection fluids to the seabed.
